Children’s Sabbath

On Sunday, October 22, First UMC will host “Children’s Sabbath”. This is a special worship service focusing on and

celebrating Children in our congregation. Children will be involved in the service, serving in every area from liturgist to presenting the sermon. At the end of the service, all children in the congregation from birth to 18 are invited to come down to the front of the Sanctuary and/or stage in Fellowship Hall to receive a special blessing from our pastor. Children’s Sabbath will take place in both worship services.

Live B.I.G.

The children’s classes are using the Live B.I.G. curriculum from Cokesbury. It combines music, crafts, DVD selections that link the biblical material to modern day living, and worship. FUMC initiated this exciting new material and is watching our kids learn the word of God. All children are welcome! They will be greeted by dedicated and caring teachers. UMK Welcomes Back Kids!

The summer is over and UMK is back in action! We begin our year on September 22^nd with the new sheriff in town Terri Morgan. We would like to welcome back our teachers who returned from last year, as well as welcome our new teachers. We are excited to see what God is going to do this year and can’t wait to see you. Trunk or Treat

Come enjoy First United Methodist Church’s safe and unique way to trick-or-treat! Trunk or Treat provides a safe environment for families to enjoy an inexpensive evening of Halloween fun in a festival atmosphere! Children trick-or-treat by going from car trunk to car trunk on “Trunk or Treat Street” to get their bag filled with goodies. Individuals or groups sign up to host and decorate a trunk. Ghouls, goblins and ghosts of all ages will enjoy a festival of activities. So come out and join us for some ghoulish games, frightening food, and freaky fun. This year’s “spooktacular” highlights will also include a chili cook off for bragging rights for an entire year.

Laity Sunday

First United Methodist Church of Arkadelphia celebrates Laity Sunday on October 17, 2010. It was first observed on October 15, 1950. Laity Sunday focuses on the celebration of the ministry of all Christians, especially those who aren’t ministers of Word and sacrament. It offers a chance for members of all ages to pause and consider their own unique calling to ministry within the community of believers. One common way to observe Laity Sunday is by having lay persons lead all parts of the worship service. While laity should always be involved in ministry, Laity Sunday is an excellent opportunity to infuse a fresh voice into worship, develop leadership potential, and highlight vital ministries within the church.

Camp Aldersgate will be celebrating their 27th Annual Fish Fry Saturday September 18th. Join the folks from Camp Aldersgate for an afternoon of fun family fellowship and tasty catfish with all the fixings! The event will feature live entertainment by Jubilation Jazz, Bob Hayes & Elvis. This year will feature something new: a children’s carnival with games from a traditional cake walk to Guitar Hero! There will also be a “country store” filled with homemade goodies and handcrafted gifts. All proceeds support Camp Aldersgate, Arkansas’ only non-profit uniquely dedicated to serving children with disabilities, you and senior adults in a camp environment. Keeping Holy Time

This is a Lectionary-based Adult Bible study complete with weekly session plans that can be used  either the preceding Sunday or on the Sunday when the sections are read will meet on Wednesday mornings at 10:00 am in the library.
We, at FUMC Arkadelphia believe our Christian lives are in a continual state of growth and service.
While there are various ways we can grow and serve, we recognize one important method is through
group oriented study and fellowship.  “All scripture is breathed out by God, and profitable for
teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God
may be competent, equipped for every good work.”

Worship with Leyden

If you know anything about me, then you know how important worship is to me, I truly only trust a few people in leading worship with me in the things I do. On September 12 in connection with our Rally Day the youth will have a kick off worship service with the LEYDEN at 6:00 in the Fellowship Hall. We are making some changes in youth ministry this year and it all starts on this date. More than anything, this ministry is about worship centered on the glory of God, who He is and what He has done, and teaching based on the word of God. We would love to struggle through life with you. If you are looking for an honest community of worshipers willing to wrestle with the difficult but life changing words of Jesus Christ, Come and see what we are about!

Come on all you Hog Fans…it’s time to go to work. September 11, 2010 will be our first of two games to work the concession stand at War Memorial Stadium. The game starts at 6pm which means the gates open at 4, which means we have to be there at 2 pm so we will leave the church at 12:30 pm, please eat lunch before you come so we can get there and get busy. We will have to eat dinner at WMS, so bring a little extra cash. We also need at least 4 adults to come besides me, two to handle money and two to help youth at the counters. ==YOUTH== text me if you are going, ==PARENTS== Just email me if you can go.
